Hand, foot, and mouth disease is common in children under five years old, but anyone can get it. The illness is usually not serious, but it is very contagious. It spreads quickly. Common symptoms can include fever and flu-like symptoms, mouth sores, and potentially a rash with red spots. Currently, many districts in our area are seeing this occur, and we are asking all parents to keep their children home while they have these symptoms. Students are free to return to school after the symptoms subside. If your child has any of these symptoms, please keep your student home and connect with your student's school and teachers. To help reduce the spread, hand-washing is the best remedy. Help your children learn good hand-washing routines of about twenty seconds or longer. For more information, visit here: https://www.cdc.gov/hand-foot-mouth/index.html.

Intermediate (4/5/6) Parents and Families: On Monday 11/7, Morton ES will host a fishing day in conjunction with the Department of Fish and Wildlife. This event is free for all students, and each class will have an opportunity to fish with the assistance of staff, department officials, and some high school students who are there to help. Students will be bringing home the fish they catch for the day. Fish will be cleaned on site, stored in plastic bags, and in ice. Students in grades 4/5/6 will be transported to the Elementary school at 1:45pm by bus so they are able to participate in this activity. Students in these grades 4/5/6 who get picked up by parents will need to be picked up at the Elementary School, where they will end their school day for the day. We are looking forward to this experience and hope that our students have an exceptional experience while fishing. Thank you to the Department of Fish and Wildlife for this opportunity and to our local citizens for putting this together. Hopefully, this can become an annual event. Please contact the office if you have any questions.
