As of tonight 1/9/2022 there will be on site learning tomorrow on time for both Morton Elementary and JR/SR High Schools. Any changes due to weather will be sent out Monday Morning.
First, thank to our community, staff, and students for all of the positive support as we are working through the water damage at our elementary school. It is greatly appreciated. The area where water has damaged part of the ceiling above the upstairs girls' bathroom was inspected today and the only damaged area is a 5'x5' area. The rest of the ceilings are dry and safe. Our next step is to test the materials in the damaged area for asbestos before we can continue with repairs, but once tested we will be ready to proceed either way. While we wait for testing to be completed and the area to be fixed the bathroom with the damage will remain closed to everyone. Repairs will take time as we need rent equipment to get on the roof to address where the water is getting in, but the snow on the ground and current weather are a factor. As of now, we expect to be back on site for Monday as the remaining ceiling in the school is safe for return.
Morton School District is going to remote learning for Friday, January 7th, 2022. This is due to the flooding and impact of water coming into the building at the Elementary School, and the rising groundwater. Students should connect with their teachers via Canvas and Google Meets. Primary-aged students will connect in the previously planned format already set up by their teachers. A robocall will be sent out after classes are released today.
Athletics have been canceled for MWP today, Wednesday January 5th.
Morton School District will be in remote instruction today. Students should be checking their Canvas accounts for posted work by their teachers throughout the school day. Primary age students who do not use Canvas should expect contact from their teacher or work on a previously provided packet for this situation. If the weather continues into tomorrow our non-primary age students will have online instruction, but that is for tomorrow if needed only. A decision about athletics transportation will be determined later today.
MWP Athletics is cancelled for Monday, January 3rd, 2022. Also, district transportation to Mossyrock Life Skills and Chehalis Olympic Academy are cancelled for Tuesday, January 4th, 2022.
MWP athletics is canceled for Thursday, December 30th due to road conditions.
The high school basketball game versus Mossyrock on Wednesday, 12/29, has been canceled.
Athletics for MWP are cancelled, both games and practices for Tuesday, 12/28/2021.
