The District has established this website to keep the community informed on collective bargaining with the Morton School District employees represented by labor unions. The Morton Education Association (MEA) represents teachers and other certificated positions; the Public School Employees of Morton (PSE) represents classified positions, including bus drivers, cooks, custodians, and paraeducators.

  • The District and MEA have engaged in two MOUs for the 2024/25 school year.

  • Update - 4/27/2023

    • Language was not updated in the last contract that should have been. The District and MEA the corrections here.

  • On 4/12/2022 the MEA and District continued with negotiations.

  • During the website redesign in March/April of 2022 several updates to bargaining with the MEA deleted by the website provider. Links to all updates can be found here.

  • On 6/3/2021 the PSE and District reached a tentative agreement for the 21/24 CBA and are working on the final document prior to ratification

  • On 4/16/2021 the PSE and District have tentative agreements on several District offers.

  • 1/4/2021 - The District updated its previous proposal to address two items on salary and IPD. 

  • On 12/17/2020 the PSE requested draft language addressing seniority.

  • PSE and the District met for contract negotiations on 12/15/2020

  • The MEA notified the District that they have ratified the contract on 12/9/2020.

  • The District and PSE are set to begin negotiations on 12/15/2020.

  • On 6/17/2020 the MEA and District met and agreed to the following:

  • On 6/17/2020 the PSE and District met and agreed to an updated MOU on COVID-19.

  • On 6/6/2020 the MEA and District met again to review the district counter-proposal - District Counter MOU

  • The MEA and District are set to meet again on 8/6.

  • The MEA and District met via Zoom to discuss the MEA's proposal regarding COVID and the opening of school for 20/21.

  • On 6/29 the District and PSE met in regards to the MSD Re-Opening Plan 2.0 and agreed on an updated MOU to the current one from 5/26.

  • On 5/26 the District and PSE met in regards to the MSD Re-Opening Plan and agreed on an MOU that begins on 6/20/2020

  • On 5/26 the District and MEA met in regards to the MSD Re-Opening Plan

  • On 4/16 the MEA and District agreed to an MOU for Teachers On Call

  • On 4/14 the PSE and District agreed to an MOU for Teachers On Call

  • On 3/16 the District met separately with the MEA and PSE to discuss the response to COVID-19 and a potential MOU if necessary

  • On 2/21 the MEA and District met to discuss an MOU for Teachers on Call

  • The PSE and District met to discuss the components of an MOU for Teachers on Call on 2/21

  • MEA, PSE, and the District met on 2/13 to discuss utilizing a Substitute Company (Teachers On Call) for 2020/2021 and beyond

  • The MEA and District met on 10/17 to discuss a counter proposal from the MEA on the District's offer on SEBB language. Both parties agreed to meet again in January. A tentative date of 1/15 has been sent out.

  • The  MEA and District will meet again on 7/30.

  • On 7/29 the MEA and District met to continue to bargain.

  • On 6/29/2019 the District received a signed TA from the MEA on District offer #7.

  • On 6/25/2019 the PSE and District entered in and concluded negotiations for the 19/20 school year. This was a reopener for the contract only with salaries and benefits on the table for bargaining.

  • The District, according to a previous discussion, sent a TA agreement on District Item #8 via DocuSign to the MEA Chief Negotiator for review and possible signature.

  • On 6/14/2019 the MEA and District signed an MOU to address a typographical error found in the CBA.

  • Negotiations resumed on 6/12/2019 between the MEA and District. The following documents were offered and/or signed:

  • The MEA and District met for negotiations on 4/23/2019. Below is a copy of the District offer presented that day and tentative agreements made:

  • The MEA and District met in caucus to discuss and work collaboratively on changes to evaluation language on 3/26/2019. The final document is not an agreement but may be a proposal from either side.

  • The MEA and District jointly revised the District's initial offer and came to a tentative agreement on the calendar portion of the CBA.

  • The District made this initial offer on 1/10/2019 concerning the calendar portion of the collective bargaining agreement with the MEA.

  • On Thursday, January 10th, 2019, the MEA and District are meeting to negotiate language concerning the school calendar.

  • On Monday 9/17/2018 the Board of Directors approved both the MEA and PSE collective bargaining contracts.

  • The District and PSE reached an agreement in late August.

  • The District and MEA met on 7/30/2018 and reached a tentative agreement

  • The District and PSE exchanged proposals on 7/24/2018 and will meet again on 8/16/2018.

  • The Disrtict countered the MEA's proposal and offered a 3rd counter proposal on 7/20/2018. This proposal is still under consideration and the District and MEA are meeting on 7/30/2018 at 8 AM to work on language only.

  • The District resubmitted the initial proposal from 7/20/2018 to the MEA after it was rejected and the District rejected the MEA's initial proposal. 

  • The District made the following proposal on 7/20/2018 to the MEA. 

  • The District and MEA meet again on 7/20/2018 and District will be proposing first as the 3rd counter proposal was countered by the MEA.

  • The District made the following 3rd counter proposal on 6/20/2018 to the MEA after the second proposal was countered. 

  • The District made the following 2nd counter proposal on 6/20/2018 to the MEA after the first proposal was countered. 

  • The District made the following counter proposal on 6/20/2018 to the MEA.

  • The MEA and District held their last negotiation meeting on 6/13/2018. The District made the following  proposal. The MEA and District are set to meet again on 6/20/2018 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. 

  • The PSE and District have set July 24th as their next bargaining session from Noon to 3:00 PM.

  • The MEA and District held a bargaining session from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM on Friday, June 1st.

  • The PSE and District are set to hold a bargaining session from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM on Friday, May 18th.

  • On 4/16 the MEA and District met to review and share current understandings and knowledge around the funding bills as passed by the legislature. 

  • The District and MEA have had multiple meetings as a committee on a new proposal on co-curricular positions which is to be brought to the bargaining table in 2018.

  • The PSE and District met on 3/6/2018 to share information regarding new funding laws as set by the state legislature. 

  • The MSD and MEA are set to open mid-contract negotiations as specified in the approved contract from 1/8/2018:

    • ARTICLE XXV DURATION:  This agreement shall be effective upon date of ratification and be in effect till August 31, 2019.
      Negotiations shall be opened on or before April 1st, 2018, to bargain compensation only for the final year of the agreement to meet the requirements of EHB 2242. This would include all compensation, such as, but not limited to:

      • Teacher salaries

      • Co-curricular contracts

  • The MSD Board of Directors approved the 2-year contract with the MEA on 1/8/2018.

  • The MEA and MSD resume negotiations in mediation on 11/17/2017.

  • The MEA and MSD resumed negotiations in mediation on 10/20/2017.

  • The MEA and MSD resumed negotiations in mediation on 10/19/2017.

  • The MEA and MSD filed jointly for mediation with Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC) on 8/26/2017.
