Critical facility repairs are needed

The District has started a facility planning process for a possible bond measure that would make necessary repairs to district facilities. The goal is to identify the most critical needs and ensure that all Morton voters understand what they are and why they are important.

The last bond proposal included projects to upgrade the secondary school and consolidate all grades into one building. This plan was more cost-effective than remodeling the aging elementary school.

The proposal also included replacing the bus barn, which is becoming hazardous due to a failing roof and walls.

We know schools are an important part of our community, and they belong to our whole community. Maintaining taxpayer-funded buildings protects the investment our community has made.

We also know that this is an uncertain time, and we are sensitive to current health and economic issues that affect us all.

As we start to share information about this planning process and the facility needs, our goal is to make sure that all Morton community members understand the issues.
