Message from the Superintendent

Welcome to Morton School District

I would like to quickly take a moment and welcome you to the Morton School District and thank you for visiting our school site. On our site you will find contact information for both of our campuses, links to each campus web site, and general information about the school district. Please contact us if you would any specific information that you are unable to find on this website.

As I begin my new position here in the Morton School District I would like to quickly express my family’s excitement for being part of this wonderful community and school. We look forward to taking part in many of the community activities such as the Loggers Jubilee and events at the Roxy, along with all of the school functions that take place throughout the year.

My wife Lisa and two children, Lanie and Cleet, have made the move to Morton in order to allow me to take on the position of both Superintendent and 7-12 Principal. We are all excited for this opportunity and look forward to returning to a rural community that is very similar to what we have experienced before. Our most recent location was in Yakima, WA, yet we commuted over thirty minutes each day to the Mt. Adams School District where I was the Principal of a PK-6 school with nearly 600 students. Prior to this my family and I lived in Cathlamet, WA, where I taught at various grade levels and my children began their academic careers.

Moving forward here in the Morton School District I intend to work with staff and community members to ensure that the education provided is of the highest quality. To make this happen education needs to be soundly grounded on instructional principles that work in all classrooms, that systems are in place to monitor and adjust both administrative and instructional practices as needed, seek out opportunities for students to both enrich their current course and to offer new learning to them, plus align all curriculum to both state and national standards throughout all grades and classes.

I look forward to our time together throughout the next several months as I begin to develop a thorough understanding of where the district is currently in order to guide it over the next several years. Input from community, staff, and students is greatly appreciated as I know that each of us wants what is best for our kids.

Thank you,

John Hannah
Superintendent/7-12 Principal

Community Service Hours Available

The White Pass Community Coalition in Morton is looking for volunteers. The work would be for the Lewis Mountain Highway Transit, and the Coalition gets credit from their grant for having volunteers. It would work out great for both the kids and the Coalition if they wanted to do some community service hours there. They can take groups of kids, or individual things. The work would probably vary from clerical to washing buses or cleaning the building. There is a lot to do there. Please call Doug Hayden or Janet Norris at 496-5404 for more information.
